Dr. Jack Schaeffer and the Schaeffer Eye Center team are firm believers in being involved and giving back to the community. This belief is demonstrated by his current and past involvement on boards and advisory committees in numerous community organizations such as Camp Smile-A-Mile, Alabama Diabetes Association, Alabama Sports Foundation, the Leukemia Society, United Cerebral Palsy and WBHM Public Radio.
In addition, Schaeffer Eye Center works with numerous organizations to provide free eye care services to uninsured adults and children including the Jefferson County Department of Health, Sight Savers of Alabama, and a number of at risk-schools.
Schaeffer Eye Center has sponsored events such as the United Cerebral Palsy’s Feast and Race, Camp Smile-A-Mile’s Red Nose Bulb, the Eddleman Tennis Classic, the Youth Lacrosse League in Birmingham, The Birmingham Barons, The Symphony Spooktacular with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, and the Birmingham Bulls.
The annual Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil may be our most well-known event. Each May, festival goers enjoy top name entertainment and Cajun cuisine while raising money for local charities. In the past five years alone, the event has raised over $271,000 for local charities.
We are very proud of our city and our involvement with the betterment of life in Alabama!
