Risks of complications occur with any surgical procedure, though LASIK surgery is among the lowest. Years of experience and training, combined with a well-researched, studied, and practiced procedure, work together to ensure a terrific result for each patient.
A great result from LASIK surgery starts with a comprehensive eye exam that assesses the health, size, and shape of your eye; precise corneal measurements are taken that inform the surgeon.
How LASIK Works
Schaeffer LaserVision offers proven technology options to correct vision problems. There are two treatment options we offer: conventional LASIK and custom Wavefront LASIK.
Custom wavefront LASIK:
Is an enhanced LASIK procedure, utilizing a wavefront analyzer to take measurements of your eye that are 25 times more precise than standard measurements (your corneal map, like a fingerprint, is unique to you). The wavefront analyzer captures high order aberrations – tiny irregularities that cannot be corrected by corrective lenses – that are included in your treatment plan. The resulting treatment exactly matches your visual errors, providing unrivaled visual enhancement.
You will be asked not to wear contact lenses for at least two weeks prior to surgery (you will need to wear your glasses during this time). On the day of surgery, we will spend approximately 90 minutes preparing; the actual surgery itself only takes 20 minutes.
Your eye will be cleaned and numbed. When ready, a small flap will be cut into the cornea. You will be asked to stare at a light (not the laser), during which time the laser will be used to correct your refractive errors.
The process takes approximately 10 minutes per eye and is generally uncomfortable (but not painful) for most people.
