Vision Therapy Is a Powerful, Non-Surgical Method to Improve Vision
Useful for Correcting Eye Alignment, Hand/Eye Coordination, & More
Many Americans know the value of vision therapy first hand, where their own vision challenges were solved following its practice. Useful for correcting eye alignment and facilitating eye teaming, as well as improving hand/eye coordination and visual acuity, vision therapy is perhaps the best kept secret in our optical toolbox.
Vision Therapy for Children
Young, Adaptable Minds Respond Best to Vision Therapy
Our most common vision therapy patients are kids. Eye alignment concerns (such as strabismus) can eventually lead to more serious conditions, including amblyopia (Useful for Correcting Eye Alignment, Hand/Eye Coordination, Lazy Eye, & More). Vision therapy works with kids to enable their eyes to overcome their challenges and develop normal vision.
Vision Therapy for Adults
Comfort, Efficiency, Decrease Reaction Times, & More
While our most common vision therapy patients may be kids, vision therapy is quite effective for adults. Used to address many of the same issues as our younger patients, or as a means to improve visual acuity, vision therapy is popular among our adult patients.
Vision therapy is used to treat a variety of visual dysfunctions, from amblyopia (poor vision in one eye) and strabismus (eye turned in or out). Many Americans know the value of vision therapy first hand, where their own vision challenges were solved following its practice. Useful for correcting eye alignment and facilitating eye teaming, as well as improving hand/eye coordination, tracking, focusing and visual acuity, vision therapy is perhaps the best kept secret in our optical toolbox.
Just because a child can read 20/20 at the doctor’s office doesn’t mean that the eyes function efficiently. Problems with focusing, teaming, and tracking are hard to spot without proper training, yet can be the thing that is holding a child back from performing well in school.
Vision therapy can also improve visual processing skills required to understand what the patient is seeing. Aspects of visual perception include visual discrimination, visual memory, spatial relations, and visual motor integration.
How vision therapy works
After we meet with our patient (be it you or your child) for a consultation, we design a tailored vision therapy program. This program combines specialized equipment, physical activities, games, and exercises that work together to improve your eyesight.
Conditions vision therapy is suited for
Vision therapy can be used for a variety of applications, including:
Eliminating reading-related symptoms
Improving poor reading skills
Enhancing athletic performance
What to expect from vision therapy
Vision therapy is a rewarding process and helps many people – children and adults alike – see better and with improved confidence. As rewarding as this process is, it requires effort and participation on the patient’s part for best results.
The patient (you or your child) will meet with the vision therapist for one on one sessions, during which time we will use instruments, games, lenses, prism and other equipment. We will also assign homework, amounting to roughly 30 minutes per night, in the form of exercises.
The goal of vision therapy is to reduce symptoms and improve function by eliminating visual dysfunction. With this comes increased self-confidence and self-esteem.
